    March 2023 News

    Daylight Savings Time is here!

Tuesday 5:00 PM rides have resumed (weather permitting). Keep an eye on the website calendar (fccycleclub.org/events) for updates.  Weekday rides will meet at 5:00 through the end of April. May through the last full week of August we will meet at 6:00. August 29 through the end of September, weekly rides will begin a 5:00 pm. From the beginning of October until the end of DST weekly rides will begin at 4:00 pm.

We plan to move the Sunday Social “D” rides to Saturdays with the same set of rotating start points as last year. The Weekly Social Ride Series will start in May when the weather is more reliable. The last of these rides will be in September, with a few special events planned for October. Weekend ride start times will vary based on weather and ride length.

    Ride Leaders and Sweepers

We need YOU! As a club we need to do a better job of setting and maintaining the pace for our rides, especially the C group. Many potential new club members have been turned off by the ever-escalating pace of the C rides that always seem to be too fast. We are doubling our efforts to train and equip ride leaders and sweepers to help us be the welcoming, friendly cycling club we all want to be.

Please consider volunteering and/or helping when called upon. The training isn’t onerous, and you can be part of the solution. We will be augmenting the C routes with designated regrouping points to help slower riders catch up and help the group stay together.

    Know Your Route!

Be sure to download the route to your bike computer or have it ready on your phone for reference. Please remember that you are responsible for knowing the route, and they are frequently updated to account for road construction and other considerations. Don’t just tell yourself you will follow the rest of the group, because you never know what will happen on the road.

Reach out to our resident techies Bill (president@fccycleclub.org) or Charles (secretary@fccycleclub.org) if you need help getting your routes downloaded.

    Member App

Did you know you can open the club calendar through an app on your phone? Our website is hosted through Wild Apricot. The Wild Apricot for Members app allows you to view the events calendar and open the route map directly.

To download the member app for iOS, click or tap here. To download the member app for Android, click or tap here. Your login information is the same as your club website login.

    Jerseys for Sale

We still have 2 FCCC jerseys available for sale: one is size Men’s Large, the other is Women’s Medium. The cost is $71.

Are you interested in buying a different jersey, bibs, jacket, or other club-branded product? Please let us know via email to board@fccycleclub.org. We are starting to plan another sale. There are minimum order quantities that we have to meet for each type of item, so we will only offer those with enough demand.

    Phil Notz’s Gear Calculator

At the February Member Meeting (held on March 1) Phil Notz presented a very detailed spreadsheet that calculates gear ratios and extra watts required for climbing. Check it out at this link.

    Member Meeting - March 22, 2023

Gary Crews and Amy Ehrenberger will be presenting pictures and details of their epic coast-to-coast ride in 2022. Gary will also be sharing his trip planning approach.

    Club Camping Trip - August 18-20, 2023

Mark your calendar! Our camping trip this year will be at Hermit Park near Estes Park on August 18-20 2023. More details soon.

Ride On (and be careful on slippery roads)!
