    SEPTEMBER 2023 NEWS

    WANDA’S RIDE - AUGUST 12, 2023

A thank you note from Wanda:

What you won’t hear … I only rode for three years.

Oct 2009 I got meningitis. I had a deep dark hole to crawl out of. March 2010 I began riding. Pushing an extra mile out each day, by May I rode to Verns and home. Soon came Bingham Hill, and by July I was riding the dams. I joined the Fort Collins Cycling Club to find different rides, this is where I first met Amy.

In Spring 2011 I remembered Amy telling me of her riding up Poudre Canyon to Stove Prairie down to Masonville. She had glowing recalls of the ride. My curiosity peaked I challenged myself to ride it alone. She sure downplayed how hard that ride was. She and I connected more over the next months riding The Copper Triangle, Triple Bypass (I did the double), bike MS, Vail Pass, BTC, Trailridge, Boulder, Hygiene, Carter Lake, Dead Horse Point just to name a few.  Amy was always good for this is the last climb, that was the hardest one, we are almost there, I think this is the last corner. All of which were mostly false. I soon learned that Amy downplayed ALL rides. Amy I blame you for making me a lot stronger rider than I would have gotten on my own.

And Amy, I give you all the credit in being the best riding partner I could have asked for.  You see Amy was behind me on my final ride, June 2013. Amy remains behind me on everything since. She has been with me during my healing and whatever I’ve reached to take on since always having my back. I am a better person for knowing Amy, and I am definitely a lot better off. Amy started the Wanda’s Ride 10 years ago almost to the day

FCCC is a great organization whether starting out, looking for new locations to ride or looking to find that perfect riding group or partner. I am beyond grateful to Amy and all of the Fort Collins Cycling Club members and your support over the past 10 years.

    CLUB CAMPING TRIP - AUGUST 18-20, 2023

Everyone who joined us on the 2023 FCCC Camping Trip to Estes Park had a great time! There are new tales to be told of our adventures, here are a few highlights:

    • Several first timers made it to the top of Old Fall River Road and lived to brag about it.
    • Lucy achieved a personal best goal on the C ride. Ask her for details!
    • Many of us enjoyed Antonio’s New York Style Pizza for the very first time. If you’re in Estes Park and craving pizza, don’t miss it! Gary Crews proclaims it the best pizza in Northern Colorado. It’s hard to disagree.
    • The great cookie mystery is solved! Kim brought homemade cookies to share on Friday night (thanks Kim!), but by Saturday evening the remaining had disappeared. There was talk of impeachment, but I’m sure that everyone will be relieved to learn that Tracy saw a tough gang of chipmunks absconding with our yummy treats.

Starting September 26, weeknight rides will start at 4:00 PM. Daylight Savings Time ends on November 5, and with it our riding season. Weekday off-season rides start at 2:00 PM, weather permitting.
